If you haven't heard of the national phenomenon called the iPhone...you have been hibernating. Welcome back. Anyway, the iPhone is being touted as one of the greatest electronics debuts this decade. It has been hyped into being the #1 story all over news stations and talk shows...besides maybe a couple items on Ms. Hilton. It is one of the most forward thinking creations Apple has ever come up with. It is actually getting great reviews. Today is the day the iPhone debuts and is available for purchase!
So, when we stopped by the mall today, I thought I would chat to the Cingular guys about it. The iPhone is only being sold at certified Apple dealers, so you won't find one available at the Cingular store...even though it will run on Cingular's network. I guess it is an Apple thing. Anyway, I noticed first of all that there were not many people in the Cingular store. I thought maybe the store would be busier than normal trying to get info on the iPhone. Nope!
After talking to the guys at Cingular for a while about the phone, we headed across town to run some more errands. Out of curiosity, the family allowed me to drive by Connecting Point...our local Apple dealer. The Cingular guys said I could buy one there...which I am not planning on doing at this time. Wouldn't you know it. The biggest...most hyped...most popular item in America today...is of no interest to our local community. (see pic) There are no lines...no big banners...no news crews...NOTHING!
MEDFORD IS SERIOUSLY BEHIND THE TIMES! I notice this all the time. Sometimes even more after I have been out of town for a little while. I was talking to a couple last week that just moved here from Dallas and they were actually getting a kick out of the fact that we are probably 5-10 years behind the rest of America in culture. I guess that is good for those who think they can see into the future, we could really take Medford by storm.
In conclusion...all this to say, I think it is pretty funny that there have been lines forming around the country for days and there is ZERO hype at all in our little community.
On a side note, I think I read somewhere that this month is the inaugural iPhone/Pastor appreciation month. So in light of this, I would be happy to receive any and all gifts of cash that would allow this Pastor to purchase said iPhone :)
